Full description

This asset presents methodological detail, key outputs and an interactive visualisation of estimated electricity consumption for 21 Australian cities. The estimates are based on the linkage of half-hourly zone substation electricity load data to geospatial supply regions, with cities defined as-per the National Cities Performance Framework.

The Tableau dashboard visualisation allows for the analysis of per-capita, per-dwelling and per-square km electricity consumption measures, in addition to total city-based consumption. Approximate electricity consumption for state-based regions beyond the defined cities are also included.

Note that the estimates are for 2016 and are preliminary. In particular, spatial mappings are approximate and gaps exist in zone substation data. Basic forms of interpolation have been used where no data is available. Please refer to the report for a more fulsome explanation of limitations.
