Full description

The report provides descriptive results from the first phase of EUDM's pilot survey of household energy use, conducted in early to mid-2017. Detailed information about the survey's design, sampling approach, methodology, measures, and key findings is included.

Phase 1 of the study involved posting surveys to a large sample of randomly-selected households across two distinct regions of Australia: the areas serviced by CitiPower and Powercor in Victoria, and the areas serviced by Horizon Power in Western Australia. Results are presented for the final sample of survey respondents (n=2,532), which included 1,881 Victorian households and 651 Western Australian households. Descriptive results are presented for each state separately, and cover several broad areas such as:

  • household demographics;
  • building/dwelling characteristics;
  • energy sources and uses;
  • cooling and heating;
  • appliance uptake and usage;
  • electricity retailers and tariff types; and
  • consent for sharing household energy data.

Key findings are presented in both text and visual form, with a number of figures and tables.

Note that results and statistics are unweighted and refer only to respondents of the survey. Demographic skew should be noted.
