The primary aim of this research was to investigate consumer responses to demand response and community energy programs in order to identify ways to improve levels of consumer acceptance, engagement and participation.
In late 2020, the CSIRO conducted a nationwide online survey to explore the knowledge, attitudes, perceptions and behaviours of Australian residential energy consumers towards demand response and community energy programs. The primary aim of this research was to investigate consumer responses to these programs in order to identify ways to improve levels of consumer acceptance, engagement and participation. In parallel, it aimed to collect new primary data from a large and broadly representative sample of households to provide a solid evidence base that can be used by governments and industry alike to help inform future program design, delivery and policy-making. Consultation with industry stakeholders – specifically Ausgrid, an electricity network in New South Wales – was conducted to inform the project scoping and survey design phases.
