Total annual electricity consumption, peak demand and regional characteristics for more than 1,000 zone substation supply areas.
Drawing on time-series zone substation energy data assets housed by the NEAR Program (see Related Resources below), this asset provides an interactive visualisation on the AREMI platform of annual electricity demand by substation supply area over the last decade. The visualisation is complemented by data describing number of dwellings, population, and land use for each supply region, based on ABS 2016 Mesh Block counts.
To view the CSIRO Energise survey snapshots in the AREMI interface, select "Add Data" -> "Research" -> "National Energy Analytics Research (NEAR) Program" -> "DNSP Zone Substations".
Note that spatial areas and statistics are approximate only and that actual zone substation supply area may shift in response to temporal changes in load and, separately, due to population growth or network reconfiguration. As such, spatial data should be treated as indicative only.
Note also that, for consistency, all demand data is reported in MW units and all energy data is reported in MWh units. For ActewAGL/EvoEnergy, this required conversion from apparent power units. A power factor of 0.9 was asserted for all such substations.
Finally, it is important to note that the original zone substation information was provided to CSIRO as raw data. CSIRO has cleaned and translated the raw data, but the Distribution Network Service Provider has not analysed, assessed or validated the quality or accuracy of the original, cleaned, modified or geospatially visualised datasets. The Distribution Network Service Provider makes no warranty or guarantee as to the quality, accuracy or suitability for any particular purpose of the zone substation information.
