A summary of key findings and results from CSIRO’s Summer Energy Study, conducted in early 2019 using the CSIRO Energise app. The CSIRO Energise app enables on-demand, near-real-time delivery and capture of surveys through a user-friendly interface, and has been specifically developed to allow Australian households to contribute to national energy research through responses to short surveys on topics related to household energy behaviour and sentiment.

This particular study aims to explore how Australian households use and interact with energy in the hottest times of year, including comfort levels and cooling practices. A total of 15 dedicated summer energy surveys were conducted in early 2019, with hundreds of participants across Australia taking part. This slide-deck presents a subset of key findings from these surveys. Topics covered include: perceptions of the ‘energy trilemma’ and what consumers perceive as most vs. least important in terms of energy reliability, sustainability and affordability; momentary thermal comfort and cooling practices in summer, in both heatwave and non-heatwave conditions; summer energy costs and affordability of energy bills; and summer health and wellbeing.

Results include bar and pie chart visualisations showing basic descriptive statistics (e.g. percentages) for survey questions.
