Full description

The data represents outputs of a suite of electricity system models which reflect different parts of the electricity supply and end-use value chain. The models were run to deliver least cost projections of electricity sector outcomes for 4 scenarios of the future of the electricity system: 'Set and forget'; 'Rise of the prosumer'; 'Leaving the grid'; and 'Renewables thrive'. These scenarios were developed by a diverse set of electricity sector stakeholders who participated in the Future Grid Forum. The scenarios are described in the Change and Choice report (see the Related Resources listing on this page).

The data reflects annual projections at the national level to the year 2050 of:

  • carbon prices and greenhouse gas abatement;
  • electricity generation technology costs;
  • electricity consumption (grid and on-site generation);
  • on-site generation share;
  • aggregate peak demand and distribution network aggregate load factor;
  • distribution system and wholesale electricity generation unit costs;
  • household retail electricity prices and bills;
  • change in commercial and industrial electricity bills;
  • cumulative electricity system expenditure; and
  • electricity consumption from electric vehicles.

Note that the projections were made in 2013 and therefore will not include any unexpected changes in the electricity sector since that time.
