An analysis of residential Victorian building, demographic and appliance use characteristics that correlate with energy demand during hot and mild days.
Through late 2016 and early 2017 CSIRO conducted the EUDM Pilot Surveys. These surveys collected responses to 30 questions from more than 3000 participants in Victoria and Western Australia. The questions covered location, demographics, building characteristics, appliance uptake, appliance usage and more. Critically, the survey responses were linked to longitudinal smart metering data for a subset of households to enable analyses into the relationships between energy use behaviour and household characteristics.
This analysis looks at those participants from Victoria who consented to the provision of smart meter data. Included is a preliminary investigation into a metric that allows something akin to load factor to be viewed across multiple days for multiple households. It extends this to looking at differences between survey questions of interest and the new load factor metric for both mild and the ten hottest days of 2016.
