A review of barriers identified by renters looking to reduce energy use and energy costs, together with a set of high-level policy recommendations.
The report summarises issues in reducing energy use and costs for residential Queensland renters. The findings draw on an online survey conducted with 220 renters living in Queensland. The survey was advertised online by key stakeholders, including: Queensland Council of Social Service (QCOSS), Tenants Queensland (TQ), Residential Tenancies Authority (RTA) Queensland, Energy and Water Ombudsman Queensland (EWOQ), and the Department of Energy and Water Supply (DEWS) Queensland.
The report includes a review of the uptake of energy efficient technologies in the rental sector, barriers to adoption of those technologies, availability of energy efficiency information and education for renters, freedom of choice in the Queensland rental market, and relevant consumer protections.
Note that the report does not provide details on the range and format of questions included in the survey. Given sample size, survey findings are best viewed as case studies.
