Modelling of annual residential electricity bills under cost-reflective pricing structures.
The report estimates electricity bills under cost-reflective pricing tariffs. The modelling draws on 12 months of half-hourly energy consumption data from 209 Australian households. Four different tariffs (as defined by Frontier Economics) were examined, with annual electricity bills calculated for each household. Subsequently, six demand response scenarios were analysed to assess potential bill impacts. The findings consider consumer characteristics in their assessment, drawing on survey response data.
The underlying data inputs to the model were originally collected as part of the Residential Building Energy Efficiency (RBEE) project conducted by CSIRO. Note that households from the RBEE trial self-selected to participate and typically occupied newer homes. This should be considered in assessing the generality of findings in the report.
