Full description

This report presents an analysis of data from the Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal's (IPART) 2015 survey of household energy usage in New South Wales (NSW). The survey was conducted by Roy Morgan Research through interviews with 4,404 households in Sydney, the Hunter Valley, Gosford, the Riverina area, and the North Coast. The survey collected basic demographic and appliance data, in addition to energy consumption data by fuel type.

Analyses of survey data include:

  • household electricity consumption by region and the impact of solar and gas supply on that consumption;
  • gas consumption by main end uses across surveyed regions;
  • the key predictors of controlled load, solar PV and gas uptake;
  • the key predictors of gas energy use and both controlled and uncontrolled load electricity consumption; and
  • key predictors of electric hot water heating, space heating, cooking, refrigeration, dishwashing, clothes drying.

The report presents the main findings from the analysis, alongside an overview of potential implications for policymakers and regulators.
